Mica
Properties
Physical & Chemical Properties
Cleavage
Mica's most unique property is its ability to split easily into thin transparent sheets resistant to water, heat and teotl; that are embedded into walls and floors as decorative art.Geology & Geography
Mica is found amongst the metamorphic and sedimentary rocks that lie at the bottom of the cold-side of the Bad Step.
Unskilled labourers from the Sinks work in narrow mines to extract mica on the cheap. Locals have no use for the mineral, nor do they understand what foreign, faraway markets intend for it.
History & Usage
Industrial Use
Paint
Mica be ground into a fine powder and mixed with pigments to create shimmering paints for murals and codices. It is especially useful when mixed in with lime plaster to provide reflective and translucent qualities for buildings.Cosmetics
This technique is also extended to make-up for its shimmering effects in commodities like eye shadows, lipstick and shampoo.Distribution
Trade & Market
Shipments of mica follow much of the same trade routes as grass and purple salt. It has become a sought-after luxury, especially in regions where access to shimmering or reflective materials is scarce.
While the Black Sons control much of its distribution, smaller companies along the tlaloque rivers have begun to carve out their niches, ensuring the vibrant trade thrives across the Mixed Lake's interconnected communities.
