The northern continent of Iosse is the largest continent on Valine, though the northern third of it is largely uninhabitable, sitting firmly in the arctic zone. In the lower two-thirds, the inhabitants are a hardy folk used to long periods of cold throughout the year. Even the lower regions of Iosse rarely reach more than comfortably warm in the short summer.   Rich in mineral wealth, particularly diamonds and gold, towards the mountainous center of the continent, there has been something of a rush of immigration into Iosse in the last fifty years or so. Several mining conglomerates have taken root, and in the richest areas of mining activity several growing towns and cities are under the control of the wealthy and powerful companies. tend to be fair-skinned, dark-haired and stocky with the skin tones becoming a little more tanned towards the southern coastal areas of the continent. One of these islands, Mithlerien, the Silver Kingdom, is currently considered to be at the peak of civilization, despite being effectively quarantined following the spread of Troll's Mark a quarter of a millennia ago. The floating city of Poheath in the eastern Fiefdom of Periezar is where AOGs were first developed. In the center of the kingdom, the port city of Wealyra was where the global trade economy was first centered and where firearms were first developed. Mithlerien is as advanced as society gets on Valine - at least within the cities at the heart of the multiple kingdoms and baronies of the island.
