Dwarf

The Stout Folk have a strong past as excellent artists, builders, and fighters, and they are deliberate and stubborn. Despite the fact that the splendor of their brief empires has gone, destroyed in the undead scourge that scarred Valine after the emergence of Khydar, the dwarves continue to follow their ancient customs and traditions. They tenaciously guard what is left of their former realms beneath hill and mountain, and some attempt to regain what has been lost to zombies, Ghast, Ghoul and the relentless march of time.   Dwarves were forged from iron, Mithral, earth, and stone on Eruer's Soulforge, according to mythology. Dwarves found their way to the surface when the Cosmic Consort breathed life into them in the center of the planet, and from there dispersed throughout each continent.   Over hundreds of years of migration and separation, the dwarves have been split into various ethnic groups, each of which is linked to the geological characteristics of their vast sub-surface domains.   Dwarves see their ancestors as a vital component of their heritage and identity. While in certain cities, a single ethnicity predominates (or is the only one present), in other dwarven populated towns, the connection between family, ethnicities, and the wider society is more complicated.   Some dwarves claim direct descent from the family that created one of the old dwarven kingdoms, and as a result, they adopt the clan name as an identity in place of a family name - "of" the realm - and wear it with the same pride as their own surnames. If such a claim is shown to be untrue, the usurpation (whether deliberate or not) results in expulsion from dwarven society and branding as such.
