Dragonborn

The dragonborn, while not being literally born of dragons, wander through a world that welcomes them with frightened incomprehension. The first mortal species formed by Gama, dragonborn were the elder of the races, combining the greatest qualities of dragons and humanoids. The dragonborn, formerly leaders of the dragons themselves, were all but wiped out when their own dragons turned against them. The majority of the Dragon Cull survivors were enslaved by their old comrades. They were eventually considered to be dragon descendants. Several dragonborn remain loyal servants of dragons, while some join the ranks of dragon armies as soldiers, and yet others are left adrift with no apparent calling. Dragonborn zealously preserve the oral history that speaks of their real past and fall, too few today to do much but dream of regaining their previous glory, yet proud even while the rest of the world looks on in awe or sorrow at their predicament.   Dragonborn have the appearance of dragons standing erect in humanoid form, however they don't have wings or a tail. In search of flight and a closer connection to dragons, the green dragonborn ultimately wiped themselves out by attempting to alter themselves with magic before the dragonborn bloodlines intermingled. The original dragonborn had scales that matched the vivid colors of Gama's ten live heads, but interbreeding over centuries has resulted in a more uniform look. The hue of their tiny, fine scales is generally brass or bronze, although it may also be red, rust, gold, or copper. They are tall and muscular, typically reaching 6 1/2 feet in height and weighing 300 pounds or more. They have talon-like claws on their hands and feet, with three fingers and a thumb on each hand.   The clan is more vital than life itself to any dragonborn. Free dragonborn owe their existence to the clan system established after the Dragon Cull, and they place their clan above everything else - even the gods - in terms of dedication and respect. Each dragonborn's actions reflect on his or her clan's honor, and dishonoring the clan can lead to expulsion and exile. Each dragonborn is aware of his or her position and responsibilities within the clan, and respect necessitates adhering to those boundaries.   The species' overall self-sufficiency is reflected in a constant quest for self-improvement. In all pursuits, the dragonborn place a premium on expertise and perfection. They despise failure and will go to great lengths to avoid giving up on something. Mastery of such talent is a lifelong ambition for a dragonborn. It is simple for members of other species who share the same dedication to gain the respect of a dragonborn.   Despite the fact that all dragonborn aspire to be self-sufficient, they realize that in tough situations, help is occasionally required. The clan, on the other hand, is the finest source of such aid, and when a client requires assistance, it turns to another dragonborn clan before turning to other races or even the gods.

Dragonborn Traits

Draconic Ancestry
You have draconic ancestry. Choose one type of dragon from the Draconic Ancestry table. Your breath weapon and damage resistance are determined by the dragon type, as shown in the table. (Note: there are no Green Dragonborn in Valine, as their line was wiped out in the early years of the world)   Breath Weapon
You can use your action to exhale destructive energy. Your draconic ancestry determines the size, shape, and damage type of the exhalation.   When you use your breath weapon, each creature in the area of the exhalation must make a saving throw, the type of which is determined by your draconic ancestry. The DC for this saving throw equals 8 + your Constitution modifier +your proficiency bonus. A creature takes 2d6 damage on a failed save, and half as much damage on a successful one. The damage increases to 3d6 at 6th level, 4d6 at 11th level, and 5d6 at 16th level.   After you use your breath weapon, you can't use it again until you complete a short or long rest.   Damage Resistance
You have resistance to the damage type associated with your draconic ancestry.

Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and Draconic.
