AOG

The acronym AOG (Advanced Operation Golem) used to stand for Advanced Operation Golem. While the original AOGs were mindless automatons, the nobles of Poheath's  floating metropolis invested much in the development of these steel and silver drones. Unexpected breakthroughs gave rise to sapient servants, resulting in what some have only grudgingly recognized as a new species and their declaration as free creatures in many of the cities and kingdoms where they had expanded. Although AOGs are constructed of wood and metal, they are capable of feeling pain and emotion. They were created as artifacts, and now they must find a new meaning. An AOG might be a loyal comrade, a cold-blooded assassin, or a visionary seeking purpose.   AOGs are made up of a mix of organic and inorganic components. Their muscles are root-like threads laced with alchemical fluids, wrapped around a structure of metal, steel, darkwood, and stone. Armored plates provide a protective outer covering while also strengthening joints. With a hinged jaw and crystal eyes placed behind a strengthened brow ridge, AOGs have a similar facial design. AOG materials and construction differ dependent on the purpose for which they were intended, in addition to these common characteristics of AOG design.   AOGs are living humanoids having biological components, despite the fact that they were created artificially. AOGs benefit from rest, healing magic, and even medical treatment in the same way as other humanoids do.   The same regulations that created AOGs free beings also prohibited the building of new AOGs and gave knowledge of their creation solely to AOGs, obliging other creatures who knew the secrets to pledge total silence or face death. Only a few non-AOGs are still aware of how to build an AOG, and the creation of more of their type is a well guarded secret. Those AOGs who desire to have children must first complete a set of tests at a secret site known only to AOGs and discussed with extreme caution. Non-AOGs who are looking for the site are highly discouraged from doing so by The Accord, a group of AOGs and certain specific allies.   The AOGs were designed to help. AOGs had a clearly defined function throughout the majority of their life and were encouraged to focus only on that role. They have savored their independence, but many still struggle to find their place in the world and to bond to the creatures that made to them.   The normal AOG doesn't display much emotion. Many AOGs take on a specific goal, such as safeguarding allies, executing a contract, or exploring a new territory. However, some AOGs like exploring their emotions, their independence, and their interpersonal interactions. Although most AOGs are atheists, others embrace spirituality and mysticism in search of a greater purpose and deeper significance.   The bodily form of the average AOG is sexless. Some AOGs are completely gender agnostic, whereas others take on a gender identity.   The more an AOG's personality grows, the more likely it is to alter its body, seeking out a technologist to tailor the appearance of its face, limbs, and armor.   Given how fresh they are to the world, AOGs frequently exhibit a strange personality characteristic or two.

Naming Traditions

The majority of AOGs were given number designations. Many of them adopted nicknames, which were frequently bestowed upon them by their colleagues. As self-sufficient people, some have chosen new identities to represent their life goals. A few adopt humanoid names, usually those of a deceased friend or mentor.   AOG Names: Anchor, Banner, Bastion, Blade, Blue, Bow, Cart, Church, Crunch, Crystal, Dagger, Dent, Five, Glaive, Hammer, Iron, Lucky, Mace, Oak, Onyx, Pants, Pierce, Red, Rod, Rusty, Scout, Seven, Shield, Slash, Smith, Spike, Temple, Vault, Wall
