Das

Das is the nearest notable Nerevarnese settlement to the border with The Kingdom of Sarayne.

Demographics

The population of Das is comprised mostly of native human citizens, although it is also home to the largest known community of half-elves, who frequently move there from Sarayne where they are less accepted.  There are also a small number of pure-blood elves, mostly those who have chosen to live with human or other non-elf spouses and their mixed race children.  Das was originally chosen by these groups simply because of its proximity to the border with Sarayne - there are no elves 'native' to Nerevarn - but now has a sizable elven subculture supplying cultural food, clothing and even theatre, which continues to attract new residents.

Government

Das is under the authority of the Kingdom of Nerevarn, and is therefore technically - like all other settlements in the country - governed under an absolute monarchy.  In reality, Das is many weeks travel from the capital city of Illyria and The Royal Palace, so outside of times of war, when all towns are expected to send a number of soldiers proportional to their population, Das operates with functional independence.  The elven and half-elven population especially tend to solve their legal or financial disputes internally according to their own cultural rules, which are rarely interfered with unless one or other party to the dispute appeals directly to the city authorities.
