Travel ID
Government-issued travel IDs are required in order to utilize teleportation stations throughout Salaris. They are also used at the train stations, border control, and ports, however, the most stringent security measures are enacted at the teleporation stations. No one can utilize these stations without valid ID.
Military personnel and other government workers are issued similar IDs that indicate their position and rank.
ID Application
Anyone can apply for a travel ID. This is done at specific, government-operated travel offices, and everyone must have one to use the teleportation stations, nomas and witches alike. Each applicant must undergo a background check, answer questions, and submit to a screening for magic ability, both active and latent. Magic type and level are indicated on the ID.Teleportation Stations
Teleportation stations are large buildings that contain several teleporation arches. Each arch is connected to another in a different location, allowing transport of people and goods through a direct connection. Thousands of people visit these stations each day, and these arches are costly and sensitive. Tampering with a teleportation portal could have disastrous results, and therefore, security is tight at each station.Spread
Travel IDs are issued throughout Salaris. Neighboring nations have been slow to adopt the IDs, as they have not invested as heavily in transportation, but the use and requirement of them is spreading, particularly to Necros, which has, in recent years, been tightening border security and installing their own system of teleporation arches.Purpose
- To readily identify suspects should something happen at one of the teleportation stations
- To monitor travel and location of magic-users, particularly high-level magic users in the event of an incident or emergency
- To monitor overall travel patterns
- To quickly identify people in the event of emergency or death, which leads to better ability to investigate crimes and notify next of kin when necessary
