The Trade and Commissions Agency of Paltetia is a government agency responsible for monitoring businesses in Paltetia. Their goal is to ensure fair trade and to prevent the sale of counterfeit or illegal goods.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the TAC agency include but are not limited to:

Work to prevent:

• Price gouging
• Price fixing
• Counterfeit products
• Stolen or otherwise illegal goods
• Theft of taxes and wages
• Unsafe conditions for workers and consumers

Regulate commerce:

• Set and enforce guidelines on safe conditions in places of business
• Collect business and sales taxes
• Monitor supply chain for issues
• Set restrictions on products as needed
• Enforce trade embargoes

Classified Responsibilities

TAC also searches products sold in businesses in an effort to detect and intercept any items imbued with magic and to apprehend anyone peddling these illegal items. The general population cannot know about magic or that witches live in Imbria and other places in the world.

Border patrol and import inspections agents do a fine job, but sometimes things slip through. Those damn smugglers are getting slipperier every year.

Regulators
TAC regulators are resposible for enforcing business regulations, investigating prices, products, and sales, assessing safety of shops and other places of business, and much more. Regulators have the authority to write fines, sieze goods, and even close businesses if necessary.
Agents
TAC agents conduct search and seizure of goods when requested by TAC regulators. Agents can arrest business owners who do not cooperate or who refuse to pay TAC fines and taxes. They act as the enforcement arm of the agency and are sent into a business when I regulator has spotted a problem that requires a more intimidating presence.
