Crimson Missive Plot in Tsuwamono | World Anvil

Crimson Missive

Incomplete

"Lady Daimyō, a letter of suggestive import has arrived while you were away. I have had it delivered to your chambers."   "My lord, a missive has arrived for you. It did not seem prudent to open until you returned. Please, read it now."   "Some letter or somethin' on the roulette table for you, boss."   "Sanosuke, a letter has arrived for you. Its nature was strange enough that I had it set aside until you arrived."   "Lord Maxim, I've received a strange letter addressed to you. It's sealed with a large red symbol which looks a lot like a Western 'question mark.'"   So came the news to each of the Cardinal Generals as they returned to their respective headquarters after yet another successful mission. Their advisers were right to set the messages aside. Each missive is encased in a thick vellum envelope, too heavy to contain just parchment. Upon breaking the question-mark seal, a small badge tumbles out. It bears the same symbol, a question mark, pierced by a blade. The accompanying letter reads as below:
Brave Question Hunter,   Our eyes have been upon you for some time, and your actions in Iga have not gone unnoticed. Whether you participated in that storied battle or not, you can now count yourself among the rare few in this country who have seen a true game of Question Hunter played.   I represent a society dedicated to the practice of this game. It is as much a pastime as a ritual. Indeed, you may have noticed something... supernatural worm its way into your own encounter. Tell me: where did the questions on the cards come from? Surely you did not prepare them beforehand.   If a string in your heart shivered at those words, you feel only the same as we do.   Question Hunter is more than a game. It points toward a universal truth, a higher power which we at the Mondaiji Society seek to unveil. If this interests you, meet us in the halls of Hamamatsu Castle. There are a shortage of individuals brave and powerful enough to become true Question Hunters, and we would welcome you as one of those rare few. Call it a friendly meeting. A tournament. A true battle of the mind.   Regardless, we await your arrival, and will most certainly make it worth your while.   Signed Mugen Shishauezaemon, Director of the Mondaiji Society
