Ampara Torre

Ampara Torre is the centre of abjuration magic in Troyvalden. Although one of the smaller Torres of Mustoir, it is one of the most prestigious, at least if you believe its own marketing. Their protective magic remains highly sought after across the Flussland, and as such they are the most affluent of the Torres. Ampara's colours are royal purple with bright yellow trim.

Location and Torre Architecture

The Ampara campus forms two concentric circles of high ceilinged, airy classrooms and laboratories, with the great tower rising high above them. The tallest of the towers at almost 1000 feet tall, it has deep purple tiles and large glass windows rising up its vertical walls to a viewing platform at the top. The tower commands amazing views over the city, in particular the surrouding area of grand mansions and formal gardens of the upper class Mustoirians.

Commercial Services

Protective magic is highly sought after by the upper and middle classes of any large city, and so the Ampara Torre is never short of work. The work (and its cost) varies widely - from protective rites performable by all students, to the Alarm and Arcane Lock spells which Associate Mages sell in cities across the Flussland, right up to complex Guards & Wards, Symbols or even Anti-Magic fields which skilled fellows spend years crafting in the great mansions and castles of the land.   Their reputation has taken quite a hit after the assassination of Duke Mathion, as the protections they had spent over a century devising in the palace were apparently fairly easily deactivated and bypassed. There remains a lengthy waiting list across Lasse for maintenance on aging protections however, so while they don't get the same acclaim they used to there is no shortage of revenue to be earned.

Culture

Ampara's students are almost exclusively Lassan and upper class. They are highly academic, with great importance placed on "correct forms" for magical spells, and intricate rituals involved in the preparation of material components. Material components are preferred over spell focuses.   Students wear their deep purple robes at all times, and are often viewed as being very snobby, even by the other Torres. Extensive studies of magical theory are mixed in with classes on elocution, poetry and comportement. The pristine presentation of all their activities belies a brutality of punishment, hidden well behind closed doors, which enforces the behaviour of students.

Research

Acadmically focused members of the Ampara typically study new protection and traps, with some working surprisingly closely with those of Detona Torre to ensure that magical traps trigger with sufficient deterrant. A smaller group work on curse and disease prevention.

Public Agenda

Ampara's public agenda is quite clear - to attempt to return to the level of influence they once held under Mathion Paucard and his predecessors. While they were hardly involved with Mathion's exuberance, many Provosts and Fellows were often found at the palace, and were deeply integrated into the network of political alliances (and betrayals) of his court.   Mathion's death was a huge blow, on many levels. With their strong reputation and heavy influence in the political life of the city, many people pointed their fingers at them. Their initial resopnse was largely to attempt to throw Detona under the bus - after all what Ampara wizard would sully themselves with creating that much fire? The more persuasive argument proved to be that at least three Fellows and a Provost were caught up in the bloodshed, ostensibly defending Mathion.
