Detona Torre
Detona Torre is the centre of evocation magic in Troyvalden. It is one of the five Torres of Mustoir, but is oft regarded as the unruly little brother working in a lower and more dangerous class of magic. Detona's colours are red and orange.
Location and Torre Architecture
The Detona Torre itself is located in the south western region of Mustoir. Surrounded by narrow streets filled with mismatched wooden and mud houses, its large red brick outbuildings stand out in their size, if not in their magnificence of architecture. The majority of the campus has a very functional feel, with architectural choices made for their stability and resilience to damage more than for any sense of style. The tower itself is the shortest of the 5, but nontheless extends some 150 feet into the air - a cleanly constructed hexagonal tower made from red brick and orange tiles, reinforced by 6 stone pillars at the corners. It has little in terms of decoration, save for a long steel lightning rod which extends almost 20 feet further up from the roof.Commercial services
Associate mages of the Torre are more commonly employed for their potential to rapidly swing the outcome of any potential conflict. A significant number of graduates are in the employ of the Acarian Military, but most act on a more freelance basis, being available for hire to Lassan or Offenlander nobles dealing with trouble near the borders of the Flussland. Less commonly, city guards may hire their services to help take down criminal actors, with Fellows capable of Arcane Hand or Resilient Sphere spells being in particular demand. Associate mages are also available for a range of more practical services, including the extreme heat or cold needed for some industrial processes and lightning for speedy welding tasks. A few are also hired as performers, especially by affluent Lassan nobles looking for dramatic displays for festivals.Culture
While the largest group of students at the Torre are still Lassan nobles, there is a wider diversity than at most of the other Torres. A significant proportion are Acarian noble sons, typically those who did not have great physical prowess. They take their studies extremely seriously, and are often amongst the most successful students. It is however rare for Acarians to progress to research positions, and still rarer for any to be awarded Fellowships. Most return home to their families on successfully attaining their diplomas, or enter the service of the military.
As for the Lassan majority, this is often seen as the last choice for prospective students. The syllabus is consdered relatively easy to master, whether this is true or not, so students are often made up of noble children whose parents have tried to find something, anything they could be good at.
A small handful of students come from more middle class backgrounds, often those from successful industrial families in Lasse or Narland who are hoping to unlock new efficient means of production. While rarely directly effective, the connections birthed through the studying period make it much easier to employ associate mages for magical industrial labour in the future.
Research
Much of the research is sponsored by Acaria, with the basic goal of "bigger, better explosions" being the main aim. An increasing new research area is in the harnessing of storm powers - lightning and thunder - something which is also very close to Acarian hearts. A small but dedicated subgroup of fellows prefer the alternative direction of cold-based research, and have been perfecting a new spell for summoning small snow storms.Public Agenda
Amongst the other Torres, they are seen as the lowest class of magic, and are also blamed (sometimes privately, sometimes more publicly) for the events that led to the death of Duke Mathion. As such, Lucien Allard has had to spend much of this time rebuilding the public image of the Torre. The commercial side of the Torre is performing well now, but this has led to deeper links with the occupying Acarians. This connection is viewed with some concern by the rest of Mustoir.
That all said, they still believe themselves very much Lassans doing business with Acaria in the spirit of the Federation. They believe in the reinstatement of a Duke, preferably from a distant relative amongst the Lassan nobility.
