Agrammon

Originally known as The Silverhand Expedition, Agrammon has grew from a Dwarven Expedition to a sprawling metropolis built on the foundation of Dwarven ingenuity.   The city of Agrammon was unique in its structure as it was built on circular layers that descend deeper into the earth. Each layer was identical in dimension, with the exception of depth. Each layer had its own function and administrator, with all administrators reporting to the Chief Architect of the city.   Within a year of its founding, Agrammon established itself as a large center of trade for numerous nations, with many races traditionally shunned in the larger markets in the Merchant’s Confederacy welcomed here without judgment. Agrammon also attracted thousands of visitors every month to its famous Gladiator’s Layer, where combatants would fight in single and double battles, as well as display public sparring and monster hunting events.   With an infant military and police force, numerous individuals arrived on a daily basis, and with a government struggling to maintain it all, many seedy individuals have made Agrammon their home and actively seek to take advantage of the disorder. This led to the rise of Ezreal Iantris in the city and resulted in Balanor’s destruction of several layers of the city in 1521.

Government

The City of Agrammon is ruled by a single ruler, given the title Architect. The Architect is responsible for the overall governance of the city, but assigns individual Administrators to each Layer. The Administrator is responsible for the operation of their particular Layer's success. If instances arise where there is a dispute between Administrators, the Architect serves as a mediator and has the final say in lawmaking or decision-making. This has led to frequent animosity between various Administrators across the years.

Defences

Physical Defense:

Agrammon Internal Security Force:

The Agrammon Internal Security Force (ISF) is tasked with maintaining order throughout the city of Agrammon. The ISF is divided into patrol groups assigned to various layers of the city and are led by the layer's Administrator. Aside from the standard patrolling guards, the ISF employs a small group of investigators known as Inquisitors who look into the more serious crimes throughout the city. As a fledgling organization, the ISF's capacity for investigation is limited, and many crimes remain unsolved if they are not caught in the moment.

Agrammon International Investigation Agency

The Agrammon International Investigation Agency was founded by Grammoth Silverhand in 1521 to look into the events that led to the Summoning of Balanor and apprehend the individual responsible.

Industry & Trade

Mining:

Agrammon's biggest exports comes from its lucrative Adventurer's Layer and Mining Layer. Various mercenaries and residents will frequently come through both of these locations in search of riches. Most will sell the items directly to the layer's staff who will pay the adventurer on the spot, and go on to refine the item for selling at a higher price point within the Market Layer.

Trade:

Agrammon's Market Layer is renown as one of the largest hubs of trade in the world. The city brings in a sizeable income from its Market Layer permits.

Infrastructure

Agrammon’s infrastructure is a testament to Dwarven ingenuity.

Elevator System

The Agrammon Elevator is the most well-known piece of infrastructure in the city. Two iron gates block off each level that open up to reveal a large platform. On the exterior, the platform is held through a series of gears and physical manpower. An elevator attendant will yell the name of the destination, and a maintenance worker on the inside of the elevator system will use a series of signals to alert the transport engineers of how far they need to move the ropes one direction or the other. While initially used as a way to transport expedition workers, the elevator system has expanded to five major platforms carrying all sorts of residents, visitors, and various goods.

History

The Silverhand Expedition was tasked by the Dwarven nation of Thaxtedmin of excavating precious stones and ores. Initial prospecting in the mountains of Gromland in a small cavern lead to some promising results. They ran into interference by some kobolds but established a stronghold at their entrance cavern but were easily fended off by their warriors. Their stronghold eventually expanded so far in that the Architect, Grammoth Silverhand, had the idea to expand their already made tunnels into different layers. The majority of the expedition agreed to found the city of Agrammon by carefully planning layers and recovering resources as they go.

Architecture

Carefully planned stone carving with supplement of lumber for housing has lead to what would seem like a dense population for the space allotted. Buildings in the city can range from lean-tos in the slum housing district to bordering on mansions in the upper levels of the housing district. By traditional means any building here would seem smaller than an over-world counterpart.
