Barony of Mull
The Barony of Mull is one of the western "marcher" baronies of the Kingdom of Lesser Imesse. It is bounded by the Baronies of Jorick, Wennick, and Minsloth to the west, and the crown lands of the Kingdom of Lesser Imesse to the north, east and south. It's baronial seat is the City of Mull, which is 40 miles from the Caldar River on the navigable Mull River.
Structure
The Barony of Mull is ruled by the Baron Hayden Highfield. He has two Briars and three Sheriffs he has appointed to assist him in the administration and rule of the territory, as well as the Mayor of Mull and his Captain of Guards in the city.
Demography and Population
The Barony of Mull is one of the most populus Baronies for its size in the Kingdoms at more than 90,000 residents, 34,000 of which are Halflings. Its largest city is the baronial seat, the City of Mull, with a population of more than 19,000 souls. The Barony of Mull has the largest population of Halflings in the Kingdoms. More than one soul in three is a halfling, and their contributions to the Barony are a large part of the Barony's success. The bulk of the Halfling population live within the three Shires located along the Mull River, while the Human majority live mainly in the City of Mull, in the northern portion of the Barony and along its eastern edge.
Territories
The Barony of Mull is an interior division of the Kingdom of Lesser Imesse, and does not share a border with either the frontier of the nation or the Caldar River's border with Cobal. Its largest river is the Mull River, flowing through the Barony seat of Mull to the Caldar north of Minsloth. The majority of its cargo trade is passed down this river, or through the many well-built canals that connect the more distant portions of the Barony to the river.
The Barony itself is nearly 1,000 square miles of farmland, orchards and river valleys that constitute some of the richest and most productive land in the world. Crops of all kinds are harvested acoss the Barony with ever growing yields. Ranches and farms produce beef, pork, poultry, dairy and fish by the ton. Some of the most productive vineyards are found here, producing grapes that are the envy of far warmer regions in distant lands. Hops, wheat and barley farms abound, and beer production is a staple facet of the local economy. Ponies and mules of exceptional breeds are exported from here in the hundreds every year.
Military
The Barony has only the one significant city (Mull) and that city has nearly 20,000 residents. The Baron Highfield has raised and trained 6 Cos of Mull Rangers (structured exactly like the Company of Rangers utilized in Cobal, with whom the Baron served in his youth) and has paid for these units with the income he was given as Baron. He is now focusing on building a baronial force of Lancers to be paid for in the same manner.
The City of Mull has a full-time professional Company-sized city Guard, and there are Watches and Guards at each of the walled towns and Shires within the Barony.
