Mylner House
The Mylner Inn is the official residence of the Baron of Mull, Hayden Highfield, whenever he stays in the city. It is located just a few hundred yards from the gatehouse of Mull Castle, which is where the Baron has his office and the hall where he meets with his officers and officials and hears petitions from the residents of the Barony.
Originally a small but comfortably appointed inn and tavern, the building was partially destroyed in a fire almost 15 years earlier, leaving only a portion of the first two stories still standing and functional. These remnant rooms were repaired and refitted to provide a small residential suite on the second floor and a kitchen, pantry and bedroom on the first.
The first floor is the residence of the former owner of the Mylner House, Percy Mylner. When Hayden bought the property, he took on Percy as a live-in steward of the house, cooking, cleaning and keeping the house for Hayden and managing his visitors and guests whenever the Baron stayed overnight in the city. The second story is the residence of Hayden, with a small but quite comfortable parlor where he can conduct business with as many as six guests and a very small bedroom. The only other rooms remaining after the fire are the cellars of the former inn. These underground rooms constitute more than three times the area available above ground, and Hayden uses these cellars to store goods and material that would normally be kept within Mull Castle. Since Hayden only utilizes the gatehouse of the Castle in any sort of official capacity, his records, supplies, stores and even a significant number of weapons and coin are kept securely locked within them.
Purpose / Function
Originally a small inn catering to visitors to the City of Mull, the inn was partially destroyed in a fire nearly 15 years ago. The building was purchased by Hayden to assist the former owner and refitted as a single small residence where the Baron could stay while conducting official business within the City. The Baron maintains a small but very comfortable dwelling on what remains of the upper floor while Percy Mylner (the former owner but still operator) cooks, keeps the house and manages the visitors to the Baron while he is in residence.
