Benfield District of Mull

The Benfield District of Mull is a small, affluent community located outside the city walls and beneath the bluffs of Castle Hill. It consists of around 40 homes and shops clustered along the roadway and has a population of about 120 souls. Most homes and buildings here are well-built timber framed structures with fine slate or shake roofs, wide streets and two deep wells for residents to draw fresh water from.

Purpose / Function

A busy and affluent neighborhood just outside the walls of the City of Mull.

History

Tradition says that it is at Benfield that Benn Ohn camped for the winter of 10-9 BF in the early days of the Ohnni Conquest of Imesse. He is reputed to have harvested many mature and valuable oaks, yews and tall spruce to construct more of his legendary trebuchets that were so effective in the taking of Minsloth.

Today the area is best known for specialty forges, smithies and a wildly successful brewery named after the area: Benfield Ale Works

Tourism

Benfield has one inn (besides the brewery) called the Coachhouse. There are two other taverns and more than a dozen shops, large and small.
