Iota Gauras Research Station

A large research space station located between the orbits of Iota Gauras III and Iota Gauras IV.

The station was established primarily to study and reverse engineer the self replicating robots that were present in the system since before the Hyperion Federation arrived in it. The robots have been incredibly useful to the HF in the exploitation of many planets and construction of the Matrioshka Brain. It is still used for this purpose despite the existence of the matrioshka brain.

Indeed, there is now no trace of the original robots left as they all exist improved by the HF with their technology. The HF has intentionally limited them to prevent them from reaching a critical mass and possibly overwhelming the HF and repelling them from the system. The station is powered through the use of Planck-Dismantlement Beam, disassembling matter obtained from the planets and any excess self replicating robots. The station is about 35 km in height and 20 km in length.

The station can hold its own population within it which makes logistics easy as they don't have to teleport workers from their worlds to the station every day. This is achieved through a small O' Neil Cylinder attached to the station which has been made habitable by use of an atmosphere and large rotating UV lights at its center causing a day-night cycle. The population is made up of many different species of the HF. The largest component of the station is still the primary research structure with a lot of very advanced equipment.

The rest of the system is defended through huge quantities of the robots and defence platforms, but the station itself is also armed and has a shipyard to provide mobile defences. Dedicated defence platforms can carry more ships, but the research station can support about 10 Boson - Class Destroyers. To prevent them from drifting, they are held to the station via a large cable. There has never been a collision involving the cables.

This is one of the largest and most important stations in the system
