Braedebekkr

Braedebekkr is the floating city in the sky. It intermittently travels throughout the Badumunzes, finding its way from their eastern to their western edge.

Demographics

A plurality of Bekkarians are Nuwi, as they were created to aid in the forging of Braedebekkr. However, it has grown to be an enormous city that contains almost every race imaginable. Outer boroughs contain Dragonborn, Firbolgs, Goblins, and Aarokocra while the inner boroughs hold dwarves, humans, wood & high elves and more.

Government

The city is run by a Circle of Ancients — a group of 7 Dwarven Walkers that have had the consciousness of several well-known and infamous former leaders of the city cast into them. The Circle of Ancients holds council for 24 hours a day, not needing to rest since their bodies have no such requirement. However, the Walkers are powered by the same power source as all other automatons in the world, and as such the Circle of Ancients has in its employ a dozen or so mages that will come by periodically and cast magic into their power sources to recharge them.

The Circle of Ancients holds court constantly, and thus has the time to hear the complaints of all its citizens. The Circle acts as judge, jury, and sentencer, carrying out the will of the city single-handedly. If there is a case brought before them, only one of the Circle will hear it. They will ask clarifying questions if deemed necessary, and then will make a preliminary ruling. They will then summarize their heard cases at the end of the day to one another, and only if the other six are in agreement against the one who made the judgment will a ruling be overturned.

Each of the Boroughs also has a Proctor who reports to the Circle of Ancients. As Braedebekkr has 10 Boroughs, the 10 Proctors when added to the Circle of Ancients makes for a 17-person executive staff responsible for making the decisions in town. Proctors are elected once every year during the festival of Caèl.

Infrastructure

The floating city has no walls. However, the city is known for its potent alcohols and it has an enormous central meeting hall within the keep that serves as a negotiation nexus for conflicts across the world. The city's 10 boroughs are nearly like self-contained cities, and they each have a unique product that they focus their economic efforts on.   Bekkarian Boroughs
  • Scepter Borough — manufactures staffs and staves of all sorts.
  • South Crown Borough — manufactures royal regalia and crowns.
  • Blackheath District — manufactures the iron & steel portions of the infamous Bekkarian airships.
  • Arcanist's Village — contains a vast library of arcane secrets where wizards from across the realm do research & write new spells.
  • Greatring Borough — manufactures rings of all kinds.
  • Doubloon District — handles Brekkarian financials, with the Banking Ward within the district handling outsider coin.
  • Kingsgate District — contains the historic site Kingsgate, and is on the edge of the city, with Bladeside (the city's version of docks) serving as a launching point for the Bekkarian fleet of airships.
  • Wybrook Ward — produces rare herbs and plants fueled by the Wybrook River
  • Whitekeep Ward — houses the Bekkarian elite and produces city, national, and international law manuscripts.
  • Sewall Corner — provides the parts and labor for the upkeep of the city's public works and infrastructure.

Geography

Thelesia World Map
This is the world map for all of Thelesia.
Though Braedebekkr is known as the Floating City, it is possible for it to come down to the ground once again. Currently it is kept in the air by a massive Air Elemental who goes by the name of Azura, but in theory Azura could choose to put the city down. However, Azura is joined to the city because it was created in the city's clocktower at the same time as Braedebekkr itself, meaning that keeping the city afloat and interacting with its denizens is all they have ever known.
