Balley Castle

Balley Castle is a fortress that was built under the auspices of constricting the route toward Baybluff. Constructed at the edge of the Scorpion Desert between the rolling hills to the south and the far eastern end of the Badumunz Foothills to the north, Balley Castle is positioned nicely to take advantage of this strategic position. This was not the only reason that the castle was built where it was, however. Before the fortress itself was constructed, the site of Balley Castle was a battlefield in a war between factions from the Badumunzes and from the Eastern Plains. A mix of many different combatants who were out for blood, none of them were able to face their foes in the end. Rather than these two armies clashing on the field of battle they were all wiped out as they were nearly ready to meet one another. Following the battle, witnesses reported no survivors but they noticed rapidly decayed corpses — ones that seemed as though they had been there for weeks, not hours. Less than a week later Balley Castle had been built, completely obscuring the site of the massacre and burying whatever evidence may have been left behind for good. Locals say that if one approaches the castle too closely the ground sucks at their feet as if it is hungry for more flesh, and that the chittering, cracking sounds that echo out in the night would haunt any sane person's dreams.
