Nightfall Forest

The Nightfall Forest, just due north of Caminster, is famed for its lush, dense greenery. This forest has remained undisturbed for hundreds of years, with only a few rangers from the Jade Covenant venturing into its inky depths.

Geography

The Nightfall Forest is a relatively flat-landed forest, with just a rolling hill or two in the center. There are a few streams and brooks that run through it, but nothing approaching the breadth of a river. On its northern edge is Lake Foxrun, famous for its dual-tailed foxes.

Ecosystem

For the outermost mile of the forest (that is, the edge) Nightfall Forest seems to be just like any other forest: lush, dense, and green. Once travelers move past the first mile of the forest, however, they start to notice that it keeps getting darker as they advance further inward. At mile two, they realize that it is almost as though it's already twilight (though it is probably fully day outside the forest). It is because of this phenomenon that the forest is thusly named.
As travelers wander closer to the center of the forest, they will notice that the ecosystem of before (a standard forest's ecosystem) begins to fade away to be replaced by that of a semi-underground environment. Because the light is always so dim, mushrooms abound and nocturnal creatures run the town. You can find giant owls, great burrowing dogs, and panthers as inky black as the nighttime itself.
At the three mile mark, darkvision or a light source is required to continue successfully navigating through the forest. At this point, adventurers will begin to see small crystalline formations forming along the ground. As they continue deeper in to the forest, these formations grow in size until they eventually stand over the heads of the adventurers, the tallest being nearly 10' high. If the travelers look closely enough at any of these enormous crystals they may see the Abinothids that reside inside.

Natural Resources

Crystals from the center of the forest (past the 3 mile deep mark) are exceptionally rare in the rest of Thelesia. This is the crystal that is used to forge the famed Crystalline Swords of Jobara, and as such it is a much sought-after commodity.
