Citadel of the Wyrm Princess

Located partway between the Bastion of Gothmug of Udun and Caminster, the Citadel of the Wyrm Princess is purportedly home to the Draconic Matriarch. Few stories exist about this being and exactly what its role in the world is, but anyone who has approached the Citadel will readily describe the peculiar happenings that characterize the place.

Purpose / Function

The Citadel of the Wyrm Princess was originally built to house dragon eggs in an incubatory chamber. Constructed with the ideal of preserving the Draconic race in mind, the Citadel was purposefully built over a tectonic gap at the edge of Volorun. Hoping to harness the raw power of this natural phenomenon, the first dragon eggs were laid into the steaming crevasse and hatched mere days later.   Currently, however, the Citadel sits quiet and seemingly empty most days. Once in a great while there will be a cacophony of sound from the inside, and even more rarely than that creatures will expose themselves through the openings and cracks in the stone. To most the Citadel seems to be a derelict castle that has been overrun by the local flora and fauna.

Alterations

Around the time that the Draconic Matriarch allegedly took up residence in the building four towers were added to the walls, each facing a different cardinal direction. Mages in the area have noticed runic symbols carved into the sides of the towers, and each of the towers alights with a color (green, blue, orange, purple) depending on the cycle of the moons. Most times the fortress remains sheathed in darkness, leaving those around the Citadel even more on edge when color instead blankets the landscape.

Architecture

Wrought from cherry-coloured marble with lapis lazuli inlays, the Citadel of the Wyrm Princess is one of the most unique structures in all of Thelesia. Its wide, load-bearing archways allow access for creatures of gargantuan proportions while a multitude of smaller doors to the right or left of the main entrances permit humanoids to enter and exit without fear of being crushed underfoot. An open-air courtyard on the roof of the Citadel further facilitates entry from above, allowing dragons up to the size Large to enter via ducts into the main chambers.
