Mirrorspace

Mirrorspace is an inhabited crystal sphere located within the Rapide Frontier. It is named for the disorienting mirroring effect all planet-bound objects and creatures in the sphere are subjected to. It's also notable for the location of its second sun, which stradles the border of the crystal sphere, existing half within wildspace and half within the Astral Sea.   Mirrorspace is located on downstream Phlogiston currents from Emberspace and Crackedspace and is upstream of Gardenspace and Spindlespace.   While two of the three planets of Mirrorspace are inhabited, none of the civilizations on either planets are spacefaring, though this hasn't stopped independent spelljamming crews and organizations from interfering with terrestrial affairs.

Geography

Mirrorspace's primary sun, referred to as Rirmor by those wishing to differentiate it from the other suns in the Known Spheres, sits in the center of the sphere. Orbitting around Rirmor are three planets. They are, in order from closest to furthest from the sun:
  • Vidda, an inhabited water world
  • Spectora, a gas giant
  • Ahno, an inhabited earth world
Mirrorspace also possesses a second sun, Rirmor II, that straddles the border of the crystal sphere. Because of this, creatures and objects capable of passing through the intense heat of a star can use Rirmor II to enter Mirrorspace without the use of a spelljammer. Additionally, Rirmor II's intersection with the crystal sphere has infused it with some properties of the sphere, namely a magical protective shielding from the Flow, which allows the sun to exist partially in the Astral Sea without setting all of the Phlogiston in the nearby area ablaze.

Localized Phenomena

Beyond sharing a name, Rirmor and Rirmor II also, seemingly, share the same planets.   Orbitting around Rirmor II are mirrored versions of Vidda, Spectora, and Ahno along with all of its inhabitants, structures and geography. The mirrored planets are incorporeal, are entirely various shades of light blue, and show all the planets' structures, inhabitants, and geography as they exist in real time. Due to the distances from their respective suns, only the physical and mirrored versions of Ahno pass through one anothers' space. Physically harmless, the intersection of both Ahno's, which occurs every 3 years, is a sacred and holy event for all cultures of the planet. Referred to by Ahnoans as the Confluence, festivities vary by culture, with some encouraging finding and "meeting" ones double while others instead believe that doing so is terrible luck, encouraging residents to keep their holds closed during the event.   The unique mirroring of the system has attracted a variety of voyuers, who visit the system to watch the comings and goings on the mirrored planets. While some watch the mirrored planets for personal pleasure, others do so for scientific or anthropological study. The harmlessness of the mirrored planets has also allowed for the most detailed study on the inner workings of gas giants in all the Known Spheres.   However, due to Rirmor II's location straddling the shell of the crystal sphere, the mirrored planets spend more than half of their respective years unseen, as the copies only exist within the confines of the sphere.

Fauna & Flora

OVer 90% of Vidda and the vast majority of its native species and culture as located in its vast underwater oceans. However, unlike many water worlds, there is a rich and flourishing terrarian culture on the islands and archipelagos that dot the surface.   Strange, gaseous creatures have been spotted in the mirrored version of Spectora, leading to the belief that nonsentient life can be found on there. However, the dangers of entering a gas giant's atmosphere has prevented these beings from being sighted physically.   Ahno is an astrally standard planet with a variety of cultures, races, and civilizations, though none are as of yet spacefaring.

Tourism

The strange ghostly planets of Mirrorspace are a draw to adventurers and researchers from across the Known Spheres, despite its location within the Rapide Frontier. Scholars, voyeurs, interested passerbys, anthropologists, and more have all traveled to Mirrorspace to study the appirations.   Beyond the famed mirrored planets, spelljammers still continue to visit and trade with the peoples of Ahno and Vidda, mostly doing so without revealing their spacefaring origins. While some natives of Mirrorspace have put together that there exists a greater astral community, until the Mercane are willing to trade with them, the people of Mirrorspace will remain terrestrially bound.
