Mzūl Somusen, Ziph Seten

The first, as well as the biggest and most fortified Novār city (not mentioning Dagon-Rudoghu in Tamgeruk Reda), founded by the Mzūl Somusen clan. In addition, it's the wealthiest settlement of the Novārkan Berkhumen, alongside Nernoinkan Tazal, Takhnen Er. Mzūl Somusen is also one of the only cities where humans and Novār live together.

City

People

Primarily Novār live in the city, however some humans live here as well, mostly on the issues of business, but some take a liking to their culture, and the inhabitants tend to respect this appreciation.

Location

Mzūl Somusen sits on a forested region of the Somusenen Bakht Plain amongst four rivers, Nernoi, Noz Zolem Somus, Tael Mirorunem and Somus Sho Azkhilen. They provide the city with ample supply of arable and fertile land. Mzūl is primarily built out of wood, with brick and stone foundations.

Economy

Mzūl Somusen holds stable economic relationship with other members of the Novārkan Berkhumen, most notably Nernoinkan Tazal, Takhnen Er (and by extension, Kingdom of Breidhem). Merchants also traverse the lands of Breid Paite to reach Mardvein for trading, although Breid Paite itself is an unpopular destination among them, due to the inhabitants' distaste towards Novār. Some Novār can't help but hold mutual feelings. Taxation leads some to circumvent the land altogether, despite the distance and time. The city of Mzūl Somusen, Ziph Seten is famous for its artisanal ceramics, skilled carpenters and a variety of colourful fabrics. Furthermore, it exports grains and other food products to the north, as well as to other cities of the region.

Fortress of Countless Impenetrable Walls) The fortress stands on the hill where the Mzūl Somusen Clan first settled on, and to this day its the place where the Esar Sho Midarem congregates for important occasions. The history of the fortress is extensive, over the 1000 years it stood for its been upgraded with new sections, and old ones were rebuilt to a higher standard. Not much of the original building is left, but it more or less retains the initial shape.   Murem Nezomem Virbadar (nov. Sixteen Flowers Monastery) Despite the "monastery" in the name, Murem Nezomem is primarily a place of study of the magic arts, more of a library than a monastery, but due to the closeness of magic and religion, its all done in one place.

The Esar Sho Midarem

The Circle of Elders is a form of government in every city of the Novārkan Berkhumen, and consists of the "most wise" and most notable people of the city, originating from the practice of the eldest members of a clan being designated its leaders. During most of the time the circle manages the town's resources and gives approval of certain projects, and when time comes to settle a significant issue, much of the town's population is gathered to discuss and resolve it. Number of seats in the circle is flexible and different to each town, and to receive an invitation to become a part of it is considered a great honour. Mzūl Somusen's Esar Shor Midarem consists of six scholars, two of the city's main architects, four merchant representitives and several highly regarded artisans. Rumors tell of hidden coordinated efforts between some of the members.

History

Foundation

The settlement was founded by the Mzūl Somusen Clan in approximately 182 B.S. because of the land's fertility. Before that, Novār clans led a primarily nomadic way of life. The inhabitants were vary of other people living in the valley, and rarely engaged in mutual activities.

Rule Under the Old Kingdom

In 74 B.S. Mzūl Somusen, Ziph Seten was subjugated by the Kingdom of Karpeirentko. During this time the Novār weren't regarded very well, and had much less rights than citizens of the kingdom. High taxation significantly slowed the city's growth, and a small part of it was built under the kingdom's watch. Novār also had no choice but to learn the kingdom's language. It wasn't perfect due to the differences in their mouth structures, but would end up beneficial since it would be much easier to learn the languages of Zheiken and Breidhem.

The Shattering

Mild earthquakes were felt throughout the outskirts of Mzūl Somusen, and a few days later the news came of the Old Kingdoms fall, and of Zheiken's secession. The same day Mzūl Somusen, Ziph Seten, along with the other cities formally earned their independence. For months Nernoi experienced an unseen drought, but the other rivers have helped make the situation less severe.

Market of the Novārkan Berkhumen

Economic growth followed Mzūl Somusen in its wake for hundreds of years to follow, and to this day sees merchants from adjacent regions and towns, and the wealth they brought let the city to become the de facto capital of the region, even though Novārkan Berkhumen doesn't have a formal capital.
