Dansole-Pāts

...I gifted these flowers to my spouse. He was overjoyed! Yes, I had to wade through swamps and wetlands, but the look on his face? It was worth all of the trouble...

Ecology and Habitat

Dansole-Pāts (nov. Soothing the Pain), or Omu-Tatomi (nov. Deep Appreciation) is a rare plant that is encountered in the Valley of Many Rivers, but is very sought after. Its a medium-height plant with a strikingly-shaped flower, very recognizable from a distance, the colour of which may vary from red to orange. Dansole-Pāts blooms during the rainy season of spring, which is the best time to collect it.   Dansole-Pāts usually grows in and in the vicinity of wetlands, in small scattered groups, although some people in the region cultivate the plant outside of swamps.

Use and Application

Flower

The petals of the flower are mass collected in large bowls, then they go through the process of drying, smoking and grounding up. A part of the resulting powder is stored in small ornate vases and kept by the apothecaries for medical reasons, and the remainder is exported to the east, into the Sisters through the Vale of Idaen.   Due to the sweet scent, rarity and beautiful looks, the flower makes for a great and valuable gift, and is thought of as something that one would give to a significant other.

Seeds

Seeds of Dansole-Pāts are frequently used in cuisine and are added to pastries and confectioneries, as one plant can yield many seeds.

The Misty Road

The trade of Dansole-Pāts is a key regional trade across the southern regions the continent. After being collected and processed by the Novarians, this substance is packed in its powedered form and shipped across the Xemidu mountains, through the Vale of Idaen and into the Principality of Latua and onwards to the Principality of Padaoza. For a high price, the wealthy, the nobility and the priestly classes of The Sisters can gain access to this substance. Gold, silver and other intricate works in turn head west through the mountains.   The route is highly dangerous however and prone to attacks by the Beastmen of Idaen. Serving only to drive prices even higher, the Novarians profit highly from this. Great merchant caravans persist despite this however, travelling even in the nights in an attempt to escape the Vale of Idaen as quickly as possible.   Once in the sisters, the powder is mixed with more local herbs and plants and mixed into a poultice to apply directly onto wounds. Known as Meliaotin, it is renowned for it's pain killing and anti-septic abilities and is ever-present for healers across the realms. The Liguelhada are also well known to be able to refine Meliaotin into a further liquid, with some claiming it gives them great magical abilities. As ever, the truth of the Liguelhada may never be known.
