Knights Planetar

The Sovereign Military Order of the Unpoliced Planets, also known as the Knights Planetar, is an Apostolic lay military order that operates in the Outer Systems and the Lost Systems, and answers directly to the Patriarch of New Cagliari. Its stated objectives are to preserve order in regions of space that lack proper law enforcement, and to protect Christian pilgrims travelling to Earth. The Planetars operate a small fleet of warships, primarily corvettes, and maintain small numbers of marines and policing forces. However, the majority of its members perform logistical or administrative roles, with only around 10% of its members being combat personnel.
The Planetars were originally founded in large part as a response to the civil conflict and strife on Tavastia in the latter part of the 2570s. While they were unable to restore order on Tavastia or prevent its takeover by the Tavastian Entropy Cult, largely due to their embryonic state at the time, they later established presences on Distira and in Tinia, where they continue to maintain order in certain regions.
Despite a generally positive perception of the Knights Planetar in the The Outer Systems Alliance and, allegedly, the Lost Systems, they are barred from operating in several countries, including the Federal Republic of Zeta Tucanae, the Avastus Directorate, and Union of Interstellar Communes. Notably, they were declared a terrorist organisation by the Avastus Directorate following a raid on an Avastan research station in 2596, which the Planetars claimed was experimenting on unwilling Human test subjects.
Following the Lost Systems War, the Knights Planetar redirected much of their attention to the Lost Systems. Since 2604, approximately half of their military assets have been deployed there, where they have been engaged in a protracted conflict with the pirate lord Francis Crevier. Despite only recently shifting their focus to the Lost Systems, the Planetars have been operating there since at least 2582, and were supposedly responsible for the conversion of Admiral Shappa's Stellar Nomad flotilla to Apostolic Christianity in 2591.
