The Federation

The Federation

The Federation is a powerful and industrious political entity, formed after the cataclysmic events of the Great War. Exclusively inhabited by people from the Modern World, it is a testament to their resilience and determination to rebuild a functional society, a place to save the Modern World from certain destruction by harvesting the The Dust from the very air within the walls. The Federation is a city-state that thrives on its technological advancements, rigid structure, and strong military presence, making it a formidable force in the world.

Capital: The Citadel

The Citadel, the capital of The Federation, stands as a massive, imposing structure, designed in brutalist architecture. The city is surrounded by towering steel walls, a visual representation of The Federation’s strength and isolation. These walls, constructed from salvaged materials of The Old World, protect its inhabitants from the harsh environment and the growing threat from the outside world.

Inside, The Citadel’s architecture is cold and functional, designed to withstand the test of time and protect The Federation's way of life. Stark, angular buildings rise high above the streets, where shadows loom over the inhabitants, and the air is thick with the smell of industry. The streets are often covered in soot from the ongoing manufacturing processes that power the city. Though technologically advanced, the city is an ugly reminder of the cost of survival in the Modern World.

Government and Political Structure

The Federation operates under a council of members from various factions within the Modern Realm. These members, representing different political and economic interests, seek to further their own agendas. While the council is ostensibly united in its goal of preserving The Federation and fueling the modern worlds technology, the reality is far more chaotic. Each member of the council has their own goals and motivations, creating constant infighting and power struggles.

The current leader of The Federation, Barreth, works to maintain a fragile peace among the council members, seeking to balance the interests of each faction. However, The Federation's political structure is on the brink of collapse as factions grow increasingly unstable. The Modern World is in turmoil, and Barreth’s leadership is being tested as The Federation faces growing external threats and internal division.

The Dust and Its Impact

While The Dust has yet to cause large-scale environmental destruction, its effects are beginning to be felt within The Federation's walls. Outside The Citadel, the land is a barren wasteland, inhospitable to most forms of life. However, The Federation has managed to maintain a semblance of order through technological advancements, including large purification systems that keep the air breathable and the streets habitable.

The Federation must continue harvesting The Dust, regardless of the effects, in order to continue shipping out the magical energy to keep the machines on in the Modern World. The Modern World has long lost any energy sources in their world and now rely exclusively on The Dust to continue fueling their home world.

External Threats and Challenges

The Federation’s primary external threat comes from the surrounding lands, where The Old World inhabitants roam. The most pressing danger is from those who seek to topple The Federation and return the world to its pre-war state. However, The Federation's greatest weakness may lie within its own walls. The internal division among the council members and the growing unrest among the citizens could lead to civil conflict, which would make The Federation vulnerable to outside attacks.

In the face of these challenges, The Federation continues to struggle to maintain its hold on the Modern Realm. It is a city of strength, but also a city on the brink of collapse, and its future is uncertain.
