Midbay

Midbay is a town set deep in the center of the Finnora Wetlands and suspended nearly entirely over the boggy terrain by wooden piers and walkways. Its central location between all three of the dominions and their capitals makes Midbay a frequented place for rest while traveling to and from the Dominion of Torment. With so many moving through Midbay as part of their travels, the town has long transformed itself and its economy from a small settlement for researching the Finnora Wetlands and its fauna, to a bustling center of trade. It makes most of its income through its famous inns for its travelers and storage houses for passing merchants carrying goods between dominions. Few exports originate from Midbay, most of them are rare species of flowers, leaves, and algae for teas. Among its most prized exports is Goldibloom moss, which is prized by tailors for its texture when woven into cloth, and unique species of swamp woods whose complex circular patterns are most coveted by woodworkers. Few who visit Midbay stay for more than a few days at a time, with tourism being nearly exclusive to scholars and botanists who primarily visit to study the surrounding wetlands for their rich and diverse flora. Midbay's inns, taverns, and its large theaters offer entertainment to travellers after days of travel across the Behemoth's Back Mountains, or the plains between Kroth and the Bairuse Shrublands. One such pleasure most beloved is the brewery named Firespit Finnoran, hidden in a back alley, which specializes in strong spirits, spiced with local plants and freshwater from the north-eastern parts of the Finnora Wetlands. At night, Midbay is a beautiful town. The moon's reflection dances with clouds of fireflies on the water canals, and the soft cricketing of insects echoes softly in the distance. Few towns offer peace and quiet at night like Midbay, and the chaos of the day leaves room for stillness at night. Although a safe city, many criminal groups use the rather quiet town as a place to meet due to its location away from any center of civilization, with plenty of places to hide and escape from justice. Luckily, Midbay enjoys a strong Ash Legion presence to patrol and protect the city from crime.
