Finnora Wetlands
The Finnora Wetlands are a small but distinguished place that sit at the foot of the Behemoth's Back Mountains, near the geographical center of Ragnarok. It is a hot, humid, swamp home to thick flora, dense marshlands, and many insects, with waters that never freeze except during its unusually cold winters tempered by the Korunan Gulf's warm saltwater.
The insects range from the mildly irritating blue-coated fireflies attracted to the salt of a man's brow to the more deadly fist-sized mosquitos capable of piercing the thick flesh of even mountain-folk.
The vegetation varies near the middle of these wetlands, where the seawater meets fresh water flowing from the mountains. The northeastern part of the wetlands is most famously known for the colorful assortments of wildflowers, vines, moss, and algae that accompany deep, rich green grasses. Many such plants have medicinal properties, but most of these plants are preferred for perfumes and teas. One month a year, a unique species of squid migrate to these calm waters to lay their eggs, which become luminescent at night.
The south-western part of the wetlands are less appealing to most, with soft and muddy soils thick with insects, murky salt water, and the foul stenches of rot. Many aquatic reptiles live in this area, though most are of no danger to those who venture nearby beyond giant alligators. While few wander this area, it is host to a highly desirable rare moss: Goldibloom moss. Its color shines a bright gold underneath the sun, and is lighter than silk, yet can be made far more durable when handled by a master seamstress.
