Fieron Eburos Character in The Fruit of War | World Anvil

Fieron Eburos (FEY-run EY-boor-roes)

Apprentice Shepherd

Fieron is an Apprentice Shepherd Shepherd of Leaving of the House of Korzhûn. Due to the Plague of the Bitter Hand having racked the city of Korzhûn and not even sparing its Shepherds, including Master Shepherd Altith, Fieron finds himself the highest-ranking in the city and thus incredibly busy. Additional -- though unwanted -- prominence is given to him via his parents, the Chief Physicias Eburos, and -- more happily -- via his older sister, Eba-Qalir Phidene Eburos. He and Isaia went to school together as children.   His grueling but banal days are shaken off-course by the death of Jal-Droxir Iknais whom he is called to attend, and insodoing receives a task of near-absurd and great import by the soul of Iknais himself.

Physical Description

Treads a fine line between healthy and run-ragged due to workload.

Body Features

Slender build, elegant hands. Takes after his mother in appearance.

Long face. Features are sharp and lead to a constantly critical expression.

Identifying Characteristics

Unliore notes that his Ega appears to her as "a twilit lavender...streaked with the warmth of red".

Second-nature immersion in Aré, emotional conveyance and (benevolent) pseudo-manipulation from his training, the 'carrying' of another soul within his own and its release.

Apparel & Accessories

Wears the violet shawl-collar with the indigo robes of a Shepherd. Wide-banded oze ring on his right thumb (a gift from Phidene). Later he is given a brown heavycloth coat by Devatska. Later still he is given breeches and a shirt in a subtle blue/gray/green pattern by Luiran Asmir-Vitane.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Fieron was born to Martus and Biae Eburos, two of the most prominent Physicias in Ustraria if not nationally, as the youngest of their two children. Unfortunately both children became 'projects', almost additional staff, and though a source of pride there was never any real interest in them as people. After failing to tame Phidene Eburos and saddle her with their ideals and expectations, those they placed on Fieron became twofold (as Biae was not able to have any more children after him). Having become sponsors of the relatively-new Korzhun Holding, it seemed logical to send the far more pliant Fieron there (when he was eight) to begin his education, but with the goal that he be groomed to take up the family mantle: regular schooling was followed by a couple of hours of basic training -- anatomy, cleanliness, learning the tools and diseases, etc. His mother supported this but was always the one to stop the rigor to keep him healthy. However, outside of the Holding there was not much opportunity to socialize with children his age, and Phidene soon grew too old and rebellious for his parents to let him play with.   As a result his friendship with Isaia became incredibly important to him, helped by the fact that their parents were neighbors and somewhat friends. When Fieron was ten he was identified as being predisposed to life as a Shepherd of Leaving and though one of the most highly-respected professions, his parents barely hid their disappointment and Fieron began to lean more and more on his sister and Isaia; two years later when he was moved to the House of Korzhûn to formally begin his training as an Initiate, the isolation imposed on him would prove damaging -- letters and the occasional visit could only do so much.   Even more pressure to hurry and grow up came when the War of the Six ended with the release of the Plague of the Bitter Hand and shortly thereafter, Korzhûn felt its effects. The House became increasingly busy before they began to become victims themselves; attrition prompted Fieron's early promotion to Acolyte in 991AC, but anxieties over his sister and Isaia -- and resentment toward his parents' evident lack of concern for his wellbeing, though he was aware they pulled significant strings to keep him from serving at the epicenter -- kept it from feeling like any real accomplishment. The next few years would go by in a blur of long and taxing days, death, and emotional exhaustion that hardened Fieron and took him further and further from his true self, only made worse by the death of Master Shepherd Aburut Altith and the limbo the House experienced for the next two seasons without a leader. Attrition prevailed again and Fieron was promoted to Apprentice Shepherd in 1000AC, but found himself taking on the role of Master more often than not and his resentment toward the Eyes and those around him growing as a result.

Education

Korzhûn Holding -- Age 8 to 12, Initiate
House of Korzhûn -- Age 12 to 14, Acolyte; Age 14 to present, Apprentice Shepherd

(Incidental medical training in childhood by the Physicias Eburos)

Mental Trauma

Grew up too early and thus unfamiliar with how to have a good time; a decade of emotional and physical exhaustion has buried his sense of self.

Intellectual Characteristics

Meyers-Briggs type of ISTJ. A little arrogant/elitist/narrow-minded, sometimes cruel, becomes easily defensive under pressure. Intelligent and were he not constantly busy, he'd likely find himself often bored. Willing to take his time to do things properly regardless of outside factors. If out of his element, self-doubt and anxiety tend to take over, but is able to hide it fairly well.

Morality & Philosophy

Heavily-saturated by House of Leavings doctrine, but ultimately guided by the "Hippocratic" oath.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

His self-worth is very closely tied-in to his ability to do his job well, and would consider himself to have no value whatsoever if he was unable to do so. Most of his drive to continue in his field is out of spite toward his parents, but the other is more out of necessity than a general love for the vocation.

Personality Quirks

In moments of private self-doubt or fear, he will twist a wide-banded oze ring on his right thumb (a gift from Phidene).

Hygiene

Average due to workload, but prefers high.

Social

Family Ties

The only person he regards as above him / that he admires is his sister, Phidene. His relationship with his parents is heavily mired in resentment, spite, and polite distance; he dislikes being compared to or even asked about them.

Social Aptitude

Feels he has no need to put much effort into relationships beyond propriety expected by his vocation and as such, is rusty outside of Phidene and Isaia. Smalltalk is infuriating to him.
