Iknais Character in The Fruit of War | World Anvil

Iknais (Ick-NAY-iss)

Jal-Droxir

Iknais -- sometimes affectionately called 'the Jal' ('the General') -- was the leader of the Hidden Company (a.k.a. the Droxir), a band of mercenaries during the War of the Six employed by the Pact of the Blessèd within the Golden Itoqir. He is widely considered a war hero.   Having never given a second name or anything by way of biographical detail, various theories developed about his background: some believed Iknais to be a forgotten family name, others that it was a given name and indicated he was from an impoverished or even slave background; some believed he had been called to participate in the war by divine intervention, and that he was from the more neutral countries of Balaqalneyis or Seyis-Gol. What was certain, however, was that he was an accomplished axeman with great leadership qualities besides, and was well-loved and respected. His title of Jal-Droxir was an honorary one awarded post-war.   He contracted the Plague of the Bitter Hand during the war and was the last of the Hidden Company to die, in early 1001AC when our story begins. He was entrusted in secret with five ikam stones by his erstwhile enemy, Aguthsha Intoh, and prior to his death set up a convoluted way to ensure their safety. It was his dying wish -- conveyed psychically to his attending Shepherd of Leaving, Fieron Eburos -- that the stones be returned to "the heirs of Aguthsha".
