The Campgrounds

"There's only one way out of the Dark Forest: spend a night at the Campgrounds."

Purpose / Function

Currently, the Campgrounds and the fires within serve several purposes. They act as the home of the Salamander, and provide safety for humans that enter into the Forest. Each fire represents an untold story, or a story currently being told. The Salamander can appear in any one of these fires to continue it's story.   Spending a night at the Campgrounds allows someone to return to the world they were in before they entered the Dark Forest. They wake up with vague memories of the night, but are safe and at the edge of whatever forest they were lost in. Humans who wish to stay in the Dark Forest are allowed, with the most notable exception being Bjorn, who has no reason to return to his village.   The Campgrounds act as an anchor in reality for the Forest. While it is known to move around, it's commonly referred to as the Center of the Dark Forest for this reason. It's currently believed that if the Salamander's fire goes out, the Forest will disappear.   Finally, it's recently come to light that the Salamander and its Campgrounds acts as a host for the Salamander Flame, the purple flame that surrounds the Salamander itself. There's not much known about this fire, as the Salamander refuses to say anything more about it.   On several occasions, various entities have attacked the Campgrounds, seeking to snuff its fire. Thus far, none have succeeded.
