The Salamander of the Campgrounds

The Salamander

"Tell me stories, feed my fire, and I'll keep you safe."   The Salamander is the creator deity of the Dark Forest. It shelters people in the Campgrounds, after which they leave the Dark Forest and wake up where ever they entered it.

Divine Domains

The Salamander only has two divine domains: Creation and Stories. It consumes stories in order to cause creation in the Dark Forest.

Divine Symbols & Sigils

The lilac Salamander Flame is the symbol of not just the Salamander, but salamanders in general. The Salamander's divine flame is used to turn certain creatures into Cinders, lesser gods that serve the Dark Forest.

Divine Goals & Aspirations

It's not known what the Salamander wants, or why it locked itself away in the Dark Forest.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

The Salamander is a small amphibious lizard-like creature that lives in the main campfire of the Campgrounds. It is about three inches tall and ten inches long, It's covered in charcoal grey skin, with bright solid blue eyes. It also exudes a sticky white substance from its pale underbelly.

Identifying Characteristics

The Salamander is easily identified by it's location, the main campfire in the Campgrounds.

Special abilities

The Salamander has a deep resonant voice, which it uses when telling stories to slowly put listeners to sleep. However, any story told by the Salamander also creates the monsters in that story somewhere within the Dark Forest.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

The Salamander's history is a mystery. Supposedly it created the Campgrounds, Forest, and everything in it, but it doesn't seem to remember doing so. Now, all we know about it is what everyone knows about it: It sits in the Campgrounds and tells stories.

Failures & Embarrassments

The Salamander is responsible for the creation of Zephnos, the Forest Boogeyman. It's said to be sad it couldn't do anything for Zephnos during these events, and regrets what the satyr eventually turned into.

Taboos

The Salamander cannot leave the Salamander Flame (the campfire it resides in), or it will die. It's unclear if this is by personal choice or if this is just a fact of the species.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

The only thing the Salamander wants in his life is an audience. However, his strange imprisonment makes that a constant problem, and it seems like it's a problem the Salamander is powerless to solve.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

The Salamander is an exceptional storyteller, as well as having a nearly unlimited number of stories to tell.

Virtues & Personality perks

The Salamander strives to save all of the creatures that enter the Dark Forest, but has a special fondness for humans.

Vices & Personality flaws

The Salamander tends to start making up answers to questions if it becomes flustered, and is prone to breaking down if those answers are also questioned. He's extremely cowardly, despite his creative power, and seems reluctant to talk about certain topics, instead steering conversation back towards his favorite topic: stories.

Personality Quirks

The Salamander tends to hide when nervous, and spins in circles when he's happy.

Social

Mannerisms

The Salamander is quite animated, and will frequently make small gestures when speaking. Common gestures include rolling over, scurrying in circles, and hiding under logs.
