Bjorn
A Norseman from early 1000 AD, Bjorn got lost in the Dark Forest while being chased by several guards for stealing a fish. After a fairly traumatic incident involving Zephnos, he adopted the Campgrounds as his new home and vowed to hunt the monster down and kill him, though he made this decision more out of fear and guilt than any desire for real justice.
Bjorn isn't a burly man. He's actually more of a coward than a warrior, and this reflects in how he fights. He's a fairly commendable archer, but is far better at setting up traps. His "guardian" status is more due to his constant vigilance for Zephnos' tricks and attacks than his ability to fight them off. Usually, this is enough, given the Salamander's own defensive abilities.
Bjorn is also an excellent judge of character. In most other situations, he might have been a good advisor. He can usually tell when someone is lying after having talked to them a bit, but is very slow to trust. This is most evident in his relationship with Soil, who he instantly distrusts due to her similarities to Zephnos. A part of him knows this is due to prejudice on his part. Soil reminds Bjorn of how Villi and Ve's mother was slain by Zephnos, indirectly giving him a chance to escape. Knowing it doesn't help him trust her though.

Bjorn distrusts Soil due to her appearance similarity to her father. Internally, Bjorn knows Soil isn't a bad person, but has a lot of trouble overlooking her mysterious appearance, stated relationship with Zephnos, and her ability to ignore the laws of the Dark Forest.

Both Soil and Bjorn have a shared interest in keeping the Campgrounds safe. The difference between them is how they go about doing it. Every night, Bjorn sets up traps, and Soil disappears into the Dark Forest. Between them, they stop many of the assaults that occur.
