Cicero the God Merchant Character in The Dark Forest | World Anvil

Cicero the God Merchant

"Across hundreds of thousands of worlds, gods die. Stories are created of those conquests. Evil gods are slain by heroes, good gods are vanquished by evil gods. But what happens to the corpus divina? That is where I come in. Cicero's World Changing Goods, at your service! What I sell will... literally... change the world."   Cicero... where to begin? He appeared one day in the Campgrounds, with no fear of the Dark Forest or it's inhabitants. Just walked straight past them like they weren't even there. Since then, he's had his eye on the Salamander the entire time he's been here, fraternized with Soil, and tried to sell his "god relics" to travelers. One of them actually did something too, though not what he advertised. Turned everything it touched into salt, all the way down.   Still, can't really kick him out. The Salamander likes him well enough, even though I'm pretty sure that owl-face would eat him up if he wasn't on fire. Says he adds some excitement to his nights. I guess he hasn't done anything wrong. Yet.   Never quite sure how he leaves every night. Just disappears, but always comes back. Never seen any of the humans do that.   And then there's me. Cicero likes me, despite my attempts to get rid of him. "Bjorn, some day you'll kill that god of yours. And then I'll be there to record your victory. Would you like to buy this sword? Came from a wind god, flows like water and can cut through anything." Seems to think of me as a "god-killer". Dunno what he's talking 'bout, but he's offered to help me kill the Bogeyman. May take him up on that. By old one-eye, I've not had any luck with my own attempts.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Cicero is after one thing: God parts. He's more interested in the bodies of god than anything else, and has been known to hack the bodies into pieces to transport them. Where he puts the parts of larger gods is a mystery, though it's generally agreed that his traveling cart seems to have some sort of portal attached to it.

Virtues & Personality perks

Cicero is an abysmal liar, having a plethora of nervous ticks, twitches, and motions to give himself away. As a result, he mostly speaks in half-truths. It's well known that almost anything he says is at least partially true. One interesting facet of this: Cicero genuinely seems to believe the stories he tells about his relics when he's selling them, which makes his half-truths all the more dangerous.   His ability to tell when a god is about to die, but not WHICH god, is also somewhat useful.

Vices & Personality flaws

Cicero is greedy, but not for money. His greed is entirely to do with the collection and redistribution of power. He likes to think of himself as a "Robin Hood" figure, though most people recognize this as a lie, although one he most certainly believes.
