Saltmarsh Town Council

The town of Saltmarsh is ruled by five elected councillors, from a town-wide popular vote held once every three years. Usually those who provide the most stability and employment in the town are elected, and they serve a four year term.
The council meets regularly in Saltmarsh Council Hall and is responsible for organising the town defences, setting trade policy and allocating town resources.
Reportedly there is currently some tension within the council, which has split along two loose factions. One on side is a loose alliance of the prominent fishing families and merchants in town, along with the workers who rely on those industries for a living.
Lead by Eda Oweland and Gellan Primewater, the longest serving council members, this alliance fears tighter controls and regulations set by the Cerulean Empire could lead to war with smugglers and pirates.
They point to the nearby Imperial town of Seaton as to what could happen if the Empire gains more influence here. They argue that the town has survived for a century by sticking to its original priorities.
On the other side of the table is a faction loyal to the nearby Cerulean Empire, lead by Eliander Fireborn and Manistrad Copperlocks.
This group considers the security offered by the Empire as vital to the survival of the town, especially with the predations of the Sea Princes becoming more common.
During the last election, the Cerulean Empire requested that Eliander Fireborn be provided a seat. While this was highly unorthodox, the citizens accepted the appointment, and he soon gained respect in his new position as head of the town guard.
In the same election, Manistrad Copperlocks received an appointment, partly due to the votes of the large group of Dwarves in town for the nearby Copperlocks Mine. She has proven a voice of stability, employment, and commerce to the town, and the mines have increased the need for supporting industry.
The last councillor is Anders Solmor, the youngest councillor in the town's history. He took over the position previously held by his mother. The charming young man is popular with the younger members of the town.
