Vindication Letter

When the Serune left Tholaren Dome, they had their reasons. The splintering was not amicable, but for the most part violence was avoided. Due to the practices of the Dome, it only took four generations before they and their cause were entirely forgotten. There were only two things that remained of them: the three council Insignia that had been created to replace those that had left, and the letter they wrote to the Insignia Council declaring their intentions and making their arguments.   While it was specifically addressed to the leading member of the Insignia Council at the time, from the holder of the Arthenarian (the leader of the coup), the overall tone of the letter was as from one people to another. Even though the formal split hadn't happened yet, it reads as though from one distinct group to another. Even if they had remained amicable, the letter makes it clear that a splintering would have happened sooner or later.

Purpose

The letter was meant to communicate and to rail against the leaders of Tholaren Dome, and against the people who failed to see the vision of those who became the Serune. It was equal parts pleading with friends and family to listen, railing against a government that denied them, and dire imprecations for failing to heed their words.

Publication Status

The letter is publicly available, but not easy to find without already knowing what and where it is.

Historical Details

Background

The majority of those in the Dome believed that humanity had lost its place as the chief species of the planet, and thus should quietly remain within the safety of the Dome and allow the Garruw and the Weinadi to move up. Around a third of the population came to believe that terraforming was a better solution, and attempted a coup to make the decision. The coup failed, and they were exiled. The letter is the last remaining record of their beliefs and what they intended.

Legacy

While the letter is not commonly known, it nonetheless shaped the history of two Domes and is a representative document of the time period of the Splintering.
