Temshai Tram Network

Looking for a convenient, non-magical, way to leave Ziltare, the finest engineers of Coppercog were set to work at devising a new form of transportation. The result was a mechanical vehicle on rails that could harness heat and turn it into steam with which to power its engines. After a successful demonstration to the leaders of other nations, the Temshai Tram Network was commissioned.   The TTN is an underground train system connecting many of the major points on Temshai. The tunnels are located deep below ground level where they can draw power from the heat of the planet's core. Occasionally, they rise closer to the surface, below major cities, allowing easier access for its riders. Each tunnel has a pair of tracks, so all travel is bi-directional. Tram cars are mainly metal in construction but have large glass windows and ceilings, affording passengers a unique view especially in parts where the tram is exposed, such as in and around the Heart Of Shards. Each car seats 16 passengers, containing two groups of four seats on each side of the centre aisle. Each group of four is arranged as two pairs of seats facing each other. Sliding doors with modestly large glass windows connect each car, allowing passengers to walk between cars if they wish. A bathroom car is located at the centre of the tram.   Cars have a bit of overhead storage for carry-on items. At the front and rear of each tram is the engine car, followed by a baggage car. Baggage cars are locked while the tram is in transit and can accommodate modest amounts of luggage for each passenger. The tram isn't built for hauling freight however; to move larger quantities of goods between continents, one must use air or sea travel or journey underground via the Subtide Nexus.   The major inter-continental routes run in a rough rectangle from Beacon east to Ziltare (12 hours), north to Tirsh Nalani (13 hours), west to Eleth Lilanor (12 hours), and south to Beacon with an intermediary stop at Heart of Shards (5 hours between Eleth Lilanor and Heart of Shards, and an additional 4 hours to Beacon). Ormr is considered too remote to be of much interest, and the Pirate Lords maintain control over Xirubo and the Contraband Coast, disallowing access to the rail network.   On Myas'tara, a central north-south route runs from Eleth Lilanor through New Throden (1.5 hours) to Zagrun (8 hours), and a main east-west branch connects Eleth Telnara and Dro'Desh (7 hours). A ring around the continent begins in Eleth Lilanor, moving to Eleth Telora (4 hours), Dun Girimbor (3 hours), Eleth Telnara (5 hours), Zagrun (6 hours), Dro'Desh (8 hours), and back to Eleth Lilanor (3 hours).
