New Throden
The Lizardfolk city of New Throden is at the heart of the Kalaskar Swamp. Accessible by winding trails through the swamp, with sturdy wooden bridges built between islands, the city is elevated, with simpler buildings constructed on stilts above the water and the network of walkways that cross the water. The lizardfolk have been slowly upgrading the wooden paths with stone, first in the city and then throughout the swamp itself, making for smoother and more stable passage.
Lizardfolk architecture is mostly wooden, with the stilts driven deep into the clay beneath the water to remain stable. The wooden buildings have wooden frames, floors, and ceilings, and hide walls with open windows, allowing breezes to provide some airflow inside. More important buildings are constructed of stone, sealed tightly near and below the waterline, to prevent swamp water from entering. The architectural style is square and functional, often with claw motifs. Skulls and teeth of their prey are frequently on display. Residences are scattered throughout the town, mixed with buildings of more importance.
Travelers are greeted by lights from the Claw And Scale tavern reflecting on the surface of the murky water. The large stone building has first-floor components on both sides of the path, with a second floor connecting the two, forming an archway through which all visitors to New Throden must pass.
The Circle of Commerce is the heart of the town. Many passages and walkways span out from the open area, which features a statue of Emperor Ahal-Jar, the leader of the Throden Empire at the height of The Assault, riding a war raptor. Market stalls abound on the side streets, with shops selling similar wares grouped together.
The lizardfolk operate mines in the Verthik Foothills near Kepesk Pass, and metal from the mines is refined and crafted in the Circle of Arms on the northwest side of the city.
The Circle of Law is to the north, featuring the city's prison, court, and law enforcement. Priding themselves on their remembrance of history, the circle also sports a library and Empire Records and Chronicles, the definitive source of historical information on the lizardfolk.
The Circle of Might is to the northeast and houses the Obsidian Palace, home to the lizardfolk emperor or empress, as well as the barracks for the lizardfolk army.
To the east, The Beast Pens are where the lizardfolk stable their domesticated dinosaurs. Raptors are used as mounts for lizardfolk scouts, while stronger, heavier dinosaurs are used to haul goods and help out in mining operations. The pens include a hatchery, veterinary clinic, and food storage buildings.
