Kalaskar Swamp

Nestled against the Southern Verthik Foothills, the Kalaskar Swamp is the new home of the Lizardfolk. Prior to The Altering, the lizardfolk made their home in the Greenstorm Jungle. When they caused The Altering, they left the jungle through Kepesk Pass, created by the explosion. The heat and moisture released by The Altering warmed the nearby portion of the foothills, gradually turning an area at the base of the foothills into a swamp.
The lizardfolk built Kepesk Watch, an outpost in the foothills, to guard the entrance to the Kepesk Pass; it grew into a small town. The majority settled in the swamp-city of New Throden at the heart of the swamp. Lizardfolk buildings are elevated on silts to keep out of the water. There are paths through the swamp that wind their way over dry portions of land, using a sturdy system of wooden walkways, strong enough to hold traders' carts, when crossing over the murky water is unavoidable. There are a few smaller villages on the fringes of the marsh, which began as trading and supply posts for the lizardfolk armies, each with pits originally used to contain humanoid slaves during The Assault. Tales abounded of slaves being sent through the pass to appease the jungle gods of the lizardfolk. While the armies of the Throden Empire had spread out far across southern Myas'tara, The Seven Eternals and their armies forced them back, destroying much of their buildings in the swamp.
After The Ascension, the surrounding nations didn't trust the lizardfolk for some time, but eventually grew to believe the lizardfolk's tale of jungle gods who were controlling them, and saw that the might of the lizardfolk was broken by The Seven Eternals. By the time of The Expulsion, most denizens of the surrounding nations of Myas'tara, and elsewhere on Temshai, had accepted the lizardfolk as trade partners, accepting mushrooms and Kress in trade for other goods.
