Session 19: Journeys And Joyousness
General Summary
Leaving Rome and Viridian on top of the Silverdew Overlook, the rest of the party headed back to Ma'Zar. Reaching the southern shore of the Silverdew Pools, they camped for the night. On Eirame's watch, she spotted a tall, thin, iridescent humanoid, who bent over Shadow, retrieved the journal written in Vash'atar from his pack, speed-read it in a few seconds, and returned it. Eirame challenged the being, who gave his name as Sharanda, a Tallow who fed on knowledge. Claiming he meant no harm, and flawlessly reciting the contents of the book, Eirame let him leave.
The next day, the 20th of The Panther, the party reached Ma'ar in the late afternoon. Heading first to the potion shop, Shadow talked to Dra'Zahna of The Flask. She suggested that due to his run-ins with the Hexalian Order, who treated psychic abilities like his as profane, he might be good to join the Veiled Embers and spread Charalyn's message that magic was innate. Doug also traded the herbs he'd received, which Dra'Zahna identified as Elderroot and Morningflower, for some potions of flying, and the party bought some healing potions.
Heading next to see J'Lanni, she gave them each a 600 gp reward for killing the gorgon. Hearing about the journal, she agreed with Viridian's assessment that the Shifter's Catacombs needed to be investigated. Finding the threat troubling though, and not knowing about the language, she suggested a trip to The Atheneum to do some research. She contacted Robassi, a Vigilance superior in Dro'Desh, who arranged transport two days later from the Silverdew Overlook, giving the party plenty of time to rejoin Rome and Viridian. J'Lanni contacted Rome via magic, and Rome agreed to the plan. The party left Ma'Zar again the next morning, on the 21st, and reached the Overlook mid-afternoon on the 22nd.
Rome and Viridian, meanwhile, talked about Elios' death, with Rome coming to terms with the shock and accepting her friend's role as accidental. Rome wished Viridian to join the party in their adventures, while Viridna seemed reluctant to leave J'Zanassi Forest behind permanently but agreed to accompany the party to the Shifter's Catacombs and put an end to the threats facing the forest. Viridian sent a message to other druids, speaking into a glowing green ball of light in her palm that sailed off to the west. Later that evening, they got an answer from a druid, in a similar ball of light, saying that assistance would be sent.
Viridian cast Greater Restoration as many times as she could over the course of the next few days. On the 20th, Rome went and found a petrified fox that the party had passed on the gentle ascent to the Overlook. Viridian restored the fox, along with some trees, and Rome managed to form a bond with her, naming her Ursula and spending the next few days training her in some basic commands. Using the time to talk, Rome and Viridian found themselves growing increasingly closer. Rome slipped into her usual showy ways, with Viridian assuring her she didn't need to put on any show to impress her. Though Viridian still seemed a bit hesitant and unsure of herself, the pair spent their last night alone, on the 21st, snuggled together in the leaves. The few days together were some of the most peaceful and happy that either could remember.
When the rest of the party joined Rome and Viridian on the 22nd, they waited on the hilltop until dusk when, as promised, mounts arrived for them. A Tallow riding a book, open at the centre, the two halves flapping like wings of a large bird, landed in the clearing, with seven other books following him. He invited the party to each sit on a book, and as they did, a few pages wrapped around their legs, to hold them in place. The books took off, following behind the Tallow on his book, flying at a high speed over the Verthik Mountains, over the thick green mist that obscured the view of the Greenstorm Jungle, over the western Verthik Mountains, and over a small portion of the western Mosharg Steppes, until, in the dark, they touched down on a landing platform on the Atheneum.
