Mosharg Steppes
Spanning northern Myas'tara and bordering the Forest of Telnara, northern Verthik Mountains, and the Dalgablun Marches, the Mosharg Steppes are home to the Orcs. The orcs were originally a more shamanistic, tribal, culture, living in wooden stockades in the foothills of the northern Horseshoe Peaks, hunting on the grasslands and in the hills, and defending their southeastern border from the Dalgablun Mob. Following The Ascension, however, as travel and trade began to open up around most parts of Myas'tara and to other continents, the orcs were exposed to more modern ways of doing things, causing a rift in the orcish people.
The traditionalist orcs have kept to the old way of life and still live in the old-style wood-and-stone stockades. They have deliberately rejected the magical innovations and more modern comforts used by the rest of the world, and look down on the more modern orcs, who they see as having betrayed the ancestors. Each tribe is led by an elder, collectively referred to as the Hands of the Ancestors.
The modernist orcs rebuilt Zagrun, a large castle-like city in the centre of the steppes led by the Farseer and the ruling council, the Farseer's Vision. They built the city near the entrance to the Rogh Roddel Pass in the Horseshoe Peaks, to get easy access to the Drakkon Sea. At the north end of the pass, the fishing village of Bardosh lies on the coast of the Drakkon Sea.
The steppes are known to the rest of Temshai for one thing: aurochs meat, a flavourful delicacy unique to the steppes. Both the modernist and traditionalist orcs offer meat for trade, but as Zagrun grew and as air travel became convenient, the orcs of Zagrun have a near-monopoly on trading with outsiders.
