Time on Temshai is similar to Earth, save in that Temshai rotates evenly so the number of daylight hours stay constant.
Temshai measures the passage of days in a twelve-day week, a Dozen. Each month consists of 3 weeks, and there are seven months in all, each one a reference to The Seven Eternals and to constellations prominent in the night sky in each month. Despite The Seven Eternals now being The Six Eternals, denizens of Temshai have kept to the old calendar.
Being born in each different month, when one of these constellations is prominent in the sky, bestows additional power in the form of a birthsign.
The first month is The Shield, marking the end of warmer temperatures; the harvest occurs at the end of the month. The Shield is named for Ahjira.
Next comes The Shadow, a constellation looking like one person following another. The month's namesake is Meeh-Jah, and by the end of the month, temperatures on Temshai are at their lowest point.
The coldest month of the year is The Tome, when the skies align like letters on the page of a book, and it is then that Charalyn's influence is strongest.
The fourth month is The Lantern, named for a star that shines as bright as the full moon in this month of the year, and after Kianna Lucent. Her desire for rebirth brings the time of growth, as temperatures rise.
Next is The Branches, named for a tree-like constellation, representing Taranath. The land is never greener than in Taranath's month.
The sixth month is The Panther, as the skies reveal the form of Dusksheen, panther companion to Durgil Steelbow. The land is hot, often covered in warm rain.
Last is The Lyre, named for Lorinae and her instrument of choice. It is the hottest month of the year, as the cycle prepares to begin again.
