Level 2: First Floor Building / Landmark in Tellus | World Anvil

Level 2: First Floor

The first floor above ground level is where the armaments begin in earnest. There are multiple ballistae and crossbows stationed around the room at regular intervals. A standard duty bunk bed is stationed at two o'clock for the on duty guards.

Lady Cotnor's Retreat/Cotnor Tower
A slim tower rising a hundred feet or more into the sky.

Purpose / Function

Originally built as a retreat for the Royal Family, Corrine Cotnor has outfitted it quite differently over the centuries.

Entries

There is a hatch, locked from the bottom, that leads down. Another hatch, locked from underneath, can be reached by a sturdy wooden latter.

Sensory & Appearance

This room smells, despite strict military cleanliness rules and regs, a lot like "soldier dude".

Denizens

There are four guards who sleep in shifts here. They are trained snipers, practicing on the local wildlife hereabouts. Many of them can hit a running squirrel with a ballista. They wear different patches to show off their acumen, on a sash around their left shoulder and right hip. They are competent enough with a blade in their hand, but would really rather shoot at people from afar.

Contents & Furnishings

Aside from the ballistae, crossbows, and racks full of weapons, there is bedding of the 'bunk' variety, a small potbellied cooking stove, and a small shelf holding a couple of wheels of cheese and some unbroken loaves of bread.

Valuables

There are two personal storage chests here for use by the guards. One contains nothing but skimpy undergarments that might cause one to wonder what these guards were doing in their spare time. The other contains 1d100 Stilton Ounce trade bars with Good King Justinian's profile cast in the top. There are also 2d10 platinum pieces struck in the year 5326 with Corrine Cotnor's profile on the face, and the Old Keep, in Craysilt. There is a small, soft leather bag that contains 2d10 gems worth 100GP each, and an amber worth 5d100 gold pieces. The polished, egg shaped amber was the personal stone of Justinian Grey, a gift from Titania of the Summer Court.
