Level 1: Ground Level Building / Landmark in Tellus | World Anvil

Level 1: Ground Level

The only entrances being two tightly banded security doors, the ground floor is nonetheless fully flanked by arrow slits. It is filled with barrels and crates of sundries and food supplies; enough for at least twenty people for a month. There are two grates in the floor that lead to the cesspits below the tower. A sturdy timber ladder leads up to a hatch that can be locked from below. The guards have contrived a couple of comfy nests for themselves among the barrels, boxes and crates.

Lady Cotnor's Retreat/Cotnor Tower
A slim tower rising a hundred feet or more into the sky.

Purpose / Function

The first floor is, for all intents and purposes, the larder. It is staffed by two guards in the Cotnor regalia, who let no one in (on purpose, anyway) that has not been branded.

Sensory & Appearance

It looks and smells like a clean pantry.

There are two Cotnor Guards at all times.

Contents & Furnishings

There are amphorae of wine, kegs of ale and mead, casks of brandy and sherry. Jars of milk, cream and butter are stored under damp cheesecloth in the cool shadows of this level. It contains all of the accoutrements to supply a royal table, including extra napkins embroidered with a monogram reading RJG. A basket and hoist system has been contrived for bringing goods to upper levels. There is a butter churn that has been unused for many years, and an empty animal cage of the type used to transport pets.

Valuables

A small banded strongbox contains 1d20 gold coins,  2d20 of one Stilton Ounce silver trade bars, a bag with 3d6 tourmalines worth 10GP each, and a small bracelet of heavy gold links worth 100GP.

Hazards & Traps

The two guards are armed and very dangerous.

Special Properties

The cesspits located under the floor are engineered to never send an odor back up into the tower, and a clever system of rain cisterns and drainage pipes provide near constant fresh water.
