Level 5: Fourth Floor

The tone of the tower shifts significantly at the fifth level. There is no more front; this place is of Ravelous Nil.
The demon Lord Gakrûl was, once, the founder of the Order of Assassins called Ravelous Nil. His mortal name had been Lord Damien Ravelous, who came to be known as 'the cruel' by the people of his Duchy in The City of the Lights.
This obsidian statue squats here, waiting, along with a retinue of obsidian attendants which sit on plinths evenly spaced around the room. He waits to scrutinize the supplicants emerging from below, in order to judge their worth to the Order. Those found lacking, or revealed by Lord Gakrûl as spies maleficent to the Order, are restrained when all of the obsidian in the room animates. A wall of force blocks the way upward until and unless the demon has granted access or perished. The eight warrior monks that animate are some of the fabled¹ Guardians of the Order.
The souls of the so-judged are consumed by the demon, who gains a little more power with each soul it absorbs, and by now (5427NG) is immensely powerful. He is bloated with souls, and can not leave this room.

A slim tower rising a hundred feet or more into the sky.

Purpose / Function

To suss out any threats to the Order of Nillus.

There is a polished teak circular stair in the western arc of the room. The way upwards is blocked by a wall of force controlled by Lord Gakrûl.

Sensory & Appearance

There is the faintest aroma of ozone, and burnt steel.
