Imported from far to the south - from a family of minor nobility but great wealth in Drythe - Kaitlin brought a large dowery with her across the Malpighien Steppes when she travelled to Wargun for her marriage to Mandar Darin, eldest son and heir to Duke Jothel. Beyond her dowery it is said that she brought a hundred dresses, three chests of jewels, five of blankets, ten of tapestries, a dozen of curtains and countless shoes. Her baggage train - those that are still alive to remember it - is said to have stretched on for over a league. Reputedly a beautiful woman with dark olive skin and ample southern charms she could not live without these simple comforts from home. In truth, most say that she was devastated at the match her father had made for her, unable to believe that he could find nothing better than a horse-loving barbarian in the frigid north.
While her charms were displayed for everyone at the Old Dono's Palace, it took several cold winters before she provided Mandar with a child. She survived what is said to be a difficult childbirth only to succumb to a persistent cough two winters later - just after young Fendrick had been weaned. Her state funeral was said to be lavish indeed, with her husband ordering a vast banquet with hundred dancers to perform in order to mollify his grief.
