Mandar Darin managed to outlive his wife and all but one of his children - his second son, Fendrick Darin being the only exception - but never did manage to become duke of Wargun. Instead, after a long life of that would make any Zennonaize noble proud, full of riding, carousing, hunting, and wenching, he died of heart failure while celebrating the birth of his grandson at one of the city's more discriminating houses of pleasure. His death - something that could likely have been foretold based on his annual expenditures on women and wine - was rumored to be a great relief to his father who had often expressed how badly he expected the duchy's fortunes to turn should his worthless succeed him.
