Hinterland Accords

Charter for the Republican Army

Many will argue that the Hinterlands is not truly a nation. It has no king or other head of state. And, beyond the Women's Council, it has no central authority that speaks for the villages and ranches that dot the Clay Steppes and Eastwood. Residents of the Hinterlands, however, will point to the Hinterland Accords as proof that they are indeed a sovereign nation. The few rules put in place by this document are, most residents will agree, the only rules that they need.

Prompted by the Kyushu invasion, the largest landowners in the region gathered in Gryphon's Crossing in 717 AC to draft a defensive strategy. Lead by General Anton Malakar, the Accords lay out a simple strategy for the defense of the Hinterlands - they would create a small standing army. General Malakar was named head of this volunteer army and oversaw the construction of what is now known as Fort Malakar to serve as the army's headquarters.

Over the years, the army has grown in size in and capabilities. Originally too small fend of even the most minor of raids from the Scarred Peak Goblins, the army grew dramatically in size after General Jarl Wadsworth called second summit of landowners in 725 AC. In order to ensure a properly sized army a new rule was put into place - no man shall marry until he has served two years in the Republican Army. While this stricture is not technically part of the accords, most locals refer to the Accords when talking about their marriage service.
