Council of Fathers
Along with the Council of Lords, the Council of Fathers provides guidance to the Archduke regarding the governance of Mennith and assists in the execution of Mennith's wil throughout the Grand Duchy. Unlike the advice given by noble lords, however, the Archduke often follows the direction of the Fathers as their word is considered the word of His Lord. Those Archdukes that have disregarded the council often find their reigns, and heights, shortened.
Elected by their peers, the Council of Fathers consists of the nine most influential Confessors in Mennith. First among them is the Lord Justice. He serves as both the hand and voice of Mennith, leading the council, church, and effectively, the state. His second is traditionally the headmaster of the Grand Seminary, a reminder that the church must always keep its eye on the future. The remaining seven council members are elected by their peer Confessors. Appointments are for life.
Most members of the council reside within the city of Mennith itself, with a number of them living directly in the Fortress of Truth. The Lord Justice, of course, lives in the rector's quarters within the the Grand Temple of Justice. Regardless, the council meets with regularity to oversee the souls of the faithful.
