Fortress of Truth
Sitting at the south end of the I shaped park at the center of Mennith, the Fortress of Truth is the seat of government for the Grand Duchy of His Lord Mennith. Its dark stone walls, made from huge chunks of hewn limestone dug up in the foothills of the Rheuthengage Mountains to the north, raise up thirty feet into the air and the four rounded towers at each corner climb to twice that height.
Unlike most fortresses, it has no courtyard, with the interior of the building filled completely with barracks for the Just Cause and governmental/church offices. Two key offices include the two story auditorium used as chambers by the Council of Lords and the glass domed meeting room for the Council of Fathers that sits on the third floor. The rest of the third floor is devoted to small apartments where members of that council live and other visiting dignitaries may, should they desire, stay.
Few windows adorn its exterior walls, making the chambers inside dark and smoky with torchlight. None seem more foreboding than the dungeons dug below the surface where those who have offended Mennith await sentencing. Trials, such as they may be, occur within the fortress as well, in a large, wood paneled room on the first floor.
