Pollination on the Northern Continent

Most plants throughout Tarantellia have pollinators with standard pollinating rituals. Here, we'll discuss the atypical situations.

Evening Bloomers

Far north of Orie Country sits a beautiful oasis where the river meets the sea known as the Northern Estuary or the Center of Enlightenment. Due to its magical nature, Scayruns pilgrimage here to honor Malmi. Tall trees filled with sweet fruits sit on the far side of the river.    On the near side, there is a significantly smaller forest. The trees have a shorter stature and the forest floor is laden with giant mushrooms sturdy enough for sitting.  Playful animals with no natural predators frolic and play together, consuming only as much as they need.  The flowers here only bloom after the sun has set.   The evening bloomers, also known as moonflowers, vary in shape, size, and color. As these plants open to the moon, gentle lights dance on the petals of the flowers. The Scayruns call this phenomenon the Dance of the Faeries.   When the pollen interacts with the magic in the air, it lightly glows. This glow lasts for 3-5 hrs depending on the season. Attracted to the magic, night bumblers buzz from flower to flower collecting pollen.  As they pollinate each plant, a beautiful stripe of magic trails behind the bumbler.  For about 5 minutes, the paths glitter across the air and slowly fade.  Evening flutterflies leave their own distinct path of magic, about 2-5 times wider than the bumblers.   Not every pollinator is attracted to the lights. Spindles often skitter flower to flower, collecting various types of pollen in their fine hairs. Once satisfied, they return to their web and rub against different areas to create a magical signature similar to the evening bloomers.  If done correctly, a spindle could feast on flutterflies and bumblers for days from one good signature.
